The Attorney General’s Office will closely review all forms submitted and will reach out to you if you provide your contact information and we require more information, but you may choose to report violations anonymously if you wish.
If the violation you are reporting concerns a product or service that you purchased from a Massachusetts business, including complaints against Massachusetts landlords, please consider filing a consumer complaint. The AGO’s Consumer Advocacy and Response Division provides free assistance in response to most consumer complaints. You may file a consumer complaint online here, or call us at 617-727-8400.
Disclosure of Your Complaint
(1) In an effort to resolve violations, the AGO may provide the information you submitted to the entity or individual you are reporting. The AGO also may provide other law enforcement and regulatory agencies with the information that you share.
(2) In most circumstances, the information you provide to the AGO, including any associated correspondence and documentation, is considered a public record. As such, it may be made available to any member of the public who makes a public records request to the AGO pursuant to G.L. c. 66.
(3) The AGO brings lawsuits to enforce violations of the laws of the Commonwealth. The AGO represents the Commonwealth not individuals, however. Therefore, the AGO cannot provide you with legal advice or act as your attorney. If you have any questions concerning your individual legal rights or responsibilities, you should contact a private attorney.
