    Environmental justice

    Review the Environmental Justice Populations Map Viewer and, in the section below, describe whether this project is in a designated Environmental Justice Community.

    Review the Environmental Justice Populations Map Viewer (see link above) and describe whether this project is in a designated Environmental Justice Community, how the site provides access to nature for members of Environmental Justice communities, and/or if it will otherwise benefit an members of an Environmental Justice community.

    Project description

    Include the following in the section below:

    • Brief description of proposed project, management strategy, and expected conservation benefit (e.g., selective removal of woody species to maintain or create early successional woodland habitat; or restoration of grassland habitats by removal of invasive shrubs);
    • Need for this project (e.g. decline of grassland habitat in the region and its associated bird species);
    • Brief description of how this project fits into the long-term management plan for the site; description of any past habitat management at the site; and
    • How the habitat will be maintained in the future.
    Describe the landscape setting and species biology to provide additional context for the overall habitat value of the proposed management. You may choose to reference the SWAP, BioMap, or regional species plans. (e.g., habitat types of the non-treatment areas of the parcel along with similar or complimentary habitat(s) and other conserved land(s) in the immediate region.)

    Species of Greatest Conservation Need

    Review the Species of Greatest Conservation Need (SGCN). In the section below, list the SGCN that occur in the area and are expected to have a net benefit from the proposed habitat enhancement actions of the project. Describe the direct connection between the habitat enhancement being conducted and the benefit to the identified species.

    Describe how the proposed habitat enhancement activities improve resilience of the habitat to climate change and overall climate adaptation. You may choose to reference the ResilientMA plan, the SWAP, or regional plans.
    Does this project require a Forest Cutting Plan (FCP) and what is the status of that plan? If the FCP has been approved, provide the FCP number or numbers and the date of issuance of the approval. For projects in Priority Habitat, provide the MESA number.
    Enter the total size of all parcel(s). (You will be asked to enter acreage for individual treatment units in the next section.)

        4. Photo map (optional): if possible, please include a map showing the location of each submitted photo.

        NOTE: Maps should be at an appropriate scale for the proposed management activities. Aerial/ortho and topographic maps preferred. Submission of ArcView shapefiles is strongly encouraged. MassWildlife uses the coordinate system “Massachusetts Stateplane Mainland Zone, NAD83, Meters”, also called “NAD 1983 StatePlane Massachusetts FIPS 2001 (Meters).” Please project the files to the Stateplane coordinate system before sending. Electronic submission of ArcView files encouraged, if possible. If applicants do not have access to ArcGIS, other online mapping and data tools, including MassMapper and Google Earth may be used.
